August 14, 2024. Turkey Point Provincial Park to St Thomas, Ontario.

We find part of the fun of camping is meeting people you didn't know before. Last night we met Wrigley the dog and her family. This morning we went over to her at the back of our campsite; she was still very timid but let us pet her. A little bit after this, Julia, the owner, gave us some zucchini bread which tasted very good.
Last night we also met someone who had done a little bit of bicycle touring and invited us to stop by his campsite. Unfortunately he wasn’t there when we stopped by, but as we left this morning we stopped by again and were able to talk for a few minutes. We also came along the front of Wrigley’s campsite specifically so that we could say hi to her and pet her with our bicycles along, so that she wouldn’t think of them as scary.
Another beautiful day of bicycling, not windy, and many fun farms to see, with a variety of crops. We saw a large field of cucumbers being harvested. A machine moved VERY slowly through the field while people sitting under a shade hand-picked the cucumbers.
We also went past a porta-potty business out in the country. Often a farm will have a tractor or an old piece of farm equipment as a part of a decorative display or a display honoring their heritage in front of the house. We were amused to see that their display had a tractor with a portable-potty next to it!
On the shady side of a church building, we met three paramedics taking a snack break. Two are retired and one is still working. We found out that they're going to an organized paramedic bike ride in Nova Scotia in the near future.

Jim had been thinking that we'd be able to stay at another provincial park tonight, but then realized that it was much farther than what we thought we could do. There was a town at a reasonable distance for us but it had only a small amount of lodging and since it was a beach town in August, we thought things would be full. So we reconsidered and went inland to a hotel in Saint Thomas. The Holiday Inn was very nice, probably the nicest place we have stayed. We even had a corner room with a window on each side. Even though we were on the 3rd floor, that wasn’t a problem as we were able to take our bicycles up an elevator. They also had a pool and a hot tub, so Kay enjoyed spending some time in sitting front of the water jets this evening.
We'd hoped to eat at Denny's which was just across the parking lot but when we got there it was closed. Also located there was a small mall that seemed to have restaurants and a food court, but when we walked through we didn’t see any and then there was a section that was closed off. There was a Dairy Queen along the outside wall of the mall, but no seating area to eat. So we went to the grocery store located at the end of the mall and got from the prepared food section a couple of very tasty meals. We also bought a 1.5 Liter container of ice cream. We ate about 3/4 to 7/8 of it and the rest we kept in the refrigerator overnight and then had the remaining portion as sort of a warm milkshake as we biked the next morning.
