July 21, 2024 Day 2, Orono to Lincoln, Maine

.  Last night when we got the take-out food, we also got a milkshake.  Jim had them put the shake in a couple of our bike water bottles!  This way he could put it in the water bottle cages to keep it from leaking all over.
When we got up, rain was supposed to last for about an hour and then clear up; not sure if we would have left any earlier but wanted to wait till it was done and stay dry. Had spicy ramen noodles and tortillas for breakfast.  Then when we tried to leave, we couldn't get the garage doors to close. After trying multiple things, we found that if we kept the button inside the garage pressed until the door was completely closed it would stay closed.  So our host sent us instructions on how to do the front door code so that it would lock after going out, so we could leave through that door after closing the garage.
We had hoped to go to church but the ones nearby had morning service later in the morning and we didn’t want to wait that long. About 8 miles into our journey we passed a Congregational church that was going to start soon. We worshiped with them and sang several familiar hymns. The sermon was on compassion.
Today we were in the Penobscot River valley so we had few hills and true to the weather forcast, the day was pleasant and sunny. Most of the ride was along US 2 but the shoulders were good and the traffic reasonable.  Got great ice cream cones at a golf course south of LIncoln.  We reviewed the information about the solar-powered cabin we had reserved for tonight and found out that there wasn’t potable water, so that was a little bit of a bummer.  When we arrived, we found out that the water ran to the site of the two cabins through a hose so the owner had to call it non-potable, but there was potable water about 100 yards away at the faucet.  In addition to our small cabin we also have access to an outdoor kitchen and outdoor shower that we share with the other cabin. The shower was great and had plenty of warm water!
