Sep 8. Off the Mountain and Curvy Roads

https://ridewithgps.com/trips/102360745

This morning as we got ready to leave, we couldn't help but get distracted by looking at some of the memorabilia around us from over 45 years of being a host for long-distance bicyclists; it's  pretty amazing all the people this humble place has seen.  We also saw a very cute black 6" snake with yellow ring around its neck that was trapped in a spider web on the floor of the kitchen.
We started with a long downhill down Afton Mountain,  but then it was up and down, no huge hills but lot of smaller ones as we traveled through the foothills.
The foggy mountains now seen from below.

The countryside was beautiful and roads were smooth but no shoulders and lot of curves. As the roads got busier, it made it hard for vehicles to get around us, so today we set a new record for amount of times we pulled off the road to let cars pass.
We stopped at an orchard early on and got some peaches which made wonderful snacks today.         Tonight we are staying in the Palmyra Methodist Church, which offers a place for cyclists to stay.  They have an outside hose with warm water to wash yourself off with and a "boy scout" clothes washer.  You can roll out your sleeping bag in one of several rooms and they have a large  amount of snacks on hand. The same people as last night are also staying here as we are both heading east on the TransAmerican Route.
