June 2, Thursday Tonasket to Republic, Wa

https://ridewithgps.com/trips/
Started with a steep hill out of Tonasket as we were leaving the river valley behind us, then had some more gradual climbs but ever headed upward. As we worked our way upward we came across some construction workers with a flag man. He told us that two bicyclists were about half an hour ahead of us and an old bicyclist was an hour and a half ahead of us--we figured that was Ed that we met yesterday. Had many beautiful panoramic views of ponderosa pine and rolling hills,  bluffs and snow-capped mountains in the distance.   Near the pass, we had some very mild rain and a couple claps of thunder. Thankfully the road was only slightly wet for the way down.  In Republic, we mailed a few things back home to cut our load back just a little bit and saw Ed from yesterday; he was also doing the same thing. We admired his bike and his 14 speed internal hub.  We are staying with Warm Showers hosts Rob and Patty tonight.  What is interesting is that this area has been a big gold mining area.
